John McCain's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate was exactly what he needed to do to make himself competitive against Barack Obama in the November elections. (For the record, I predicted three weeks ago that Palin would be his choice.)

Smith Awarded Bronze Star for Heroism in Iraq

Systems Support Telephone Technician Harold C. Smith, affectionately known throughout the District as *Smitty,* recently received the Bronze Star for heroic service as a Sergeant First Class in the US national Guard Reserves. While deployed with the 653rd Signal Company at Camp Echo in Diwniyah this past spring, Smith went above and beyond the call of duty with no regard for personal safety on a number of occasions in supporting his unit*s mission.
